IMEI Number Allocation
The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is a 15-digit decimal number required to identify terminal equipment when it is used on a GSM/UMTS mobile phone network. To ensure traceability of each item of equipment connected to the network, the IMEI must be unique and manufacturers must ensure no duplication of IMEI.
This requires the registration of companies onto the IMEI database before the allocation of TAC (part of the IMEI) numbers. IMEI numbers are a global resource. The allocation of a TAC does not imply ownership of an IMEI by either the organisation to which the TAC is allocated or by the organisation performing the allocation function. The overriding principles for the allocation and management of IMEI are preservation of the available number range, the prevention of duplication and the maintenance of security.
To apply for TAC (IMEI) numbers, you must first register your company onto the IMEI database.The TAC number is the first 8 digits of the 15 digit IMEI. The TAC number is allocated on a per company and per model basis. If successful after the registration process, you will be given the IMEI series to implant on your mobile . MSAI reserves the right to refuse applications where there is a doubt as to the validity of the application. A rejected application may be re-submitted with additional information.
Process for Applying for IMEI Numbers in India
STAGE:1 REGISTRATION AND VERIFICATION
The Mobile Equipment (ME) Importer / Brand Owner will require downloading (please download the attachment from point 7 of the registration form) and filling in the details of the IMEI Registration form (all fields mandatory) and send the documents (duly notarized as indicated) back to the designated ‘Coordinator’ through e-mail. The Importer is also required to courier the photocopies of the original documents (duly notarized) to MSAI Delhi office address. . (AB Mobile Standards Alliance of India Pvt. STAGE 2: IMEI ALLOCATION PROCESS
After qualifying the verification stage of the documents received from the Brand owner, he will be intimated of the same and along with the TAC Allocation Charges Details, the Brand owner also receives the “Technical Specifications Format, Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and Manufacturers Agreement. The Brand owner may opt for the BAND as per his requirement of IMEI Numbers. On confirming the BAND Type, the process raises and sends the invoice and awaits payment confirmation (Wire transfer/Cheque payment).
Please Note: IMEI Requisitions Are Processed Within 24 Hours Of Payment Confirmation.
1. Technical Specification Sheet – All fields are mandatory to be filled in the specifications form, of the models you would like to acquire IMEIs for. Should you find the technical specifications format too elaborate, the Brand owner may send us the technical specifications as provided by the vendor.2. Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) – Importer will require getting the content signed by the company Director (with Company seal) and send back the document (both softcopy and hardcopy).
3. Manufacturers Agreement - Importer will require getting the content printed on a Rs. 100/- stamp paper (duly notarized) and get the same signed by his company Director(with Company seal). The hard copy of this agreement is required to be sent at MSAI Delhi office address.
Please Note: IMEI allocation is not equipment approval. An IMEI allocation does not mean that the equipment has been approved. IMEI ranges are allocated on request; evidence of compliance is not required for an IMEI allocation.
